The DPI Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) in the Division of Learning Support is currently seeking applicants for one full-time Custodian position. This position is located at 309 W. Walworth Avenue, Delavan, WI. The WSD provides educational services for deaf and hard of hearing students ages three to twenty-one.

Position Summary

This position is manual work generally of a heavy physical nature in the cleaning and maintenance of the Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) buildings and grounds. Under the direction of the Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds, the Custodian will maintain and clean assigned school facilities. WSD is a residential school which operates twenty-four hours a day, five days a week, as well as special events occasionally on weekends, with students attending classes approximately 10 months a year. In addition, summer school sessions are offered.

Salary Information

The hourly rate for this position will be $15.86 per hour (approximately $32988 per year). For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at time of hire. This position is in pay schedule 03, range 08. A one-year probationary period will be required.

Required weekend hours worked (i.e., work hours on Saturday and Sunday) qualify for an additional eighty cents ($0.80) per hour. Required night hours worked (i.e., work hours between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.) qualify for an additional eighty cents ($0.80) per hour.
This position offers excellent benefits. The State of Wisconsin is a qualifying employer for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Job Details

A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire.
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., without DPI sponsorship). The Department of Public Instruction does not sponsor visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

A TB screen will be required prior to start.

Hours may vary with shift start times as early as 5:00 a.m. and end times as late as 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and occasional weekend and evening hours.

This position has physical requirements which include but are not limited to lifting up to 40 pounds, twisting, bending, climbing, reaching and pulling.
